Everyone is different when it comes to the dosing they need, although there are standard guidelines. The amount you need depends upon the area being injected — larger muscle groups like the frown need more product than, for instance, the eyes or the upper lip. Other factors include your age, skin type, and the number of lines in the area you want to treat.

How Many Units Do You Need?

Each area requires different amounts. Here are the average unit ranges (quoted based on Brand B solution):

  • Frown: 15–25 units
  • Eyes (crow's feet): 12–20 units total (both sides)
  • Forehead: 7–18 units
  • Brow lift: 4–12 units (used alongside frown injections)
  • Bunny lines: 4–10 units
  • Smile lift: 10–20 units
  • Dimpled chin: 5–15 units
  • Neck lift (Nefertiti lift): 12–30 units
  • Facial slimming: 50–100 units
  • Hyperhidrosis (underarms): 60–100 units

Dr Lindsay's Approach to Dosing

On the whole, Dr Lindsay prefers to start small and build up gradually with the dose over time. If you inject too little, the treatment will not last long (it should last at least 3 months on average) or you won't get a good enough result. If you inject too much, you get the much-feared "frozen" look. Dr Lindsay's philosophy is that it's always possible to add more at a review appointment — but you can't take back too much product.

About the Different Brands

There are several brands of anti-wrinkle injections available in Australia. For regulatory reasons, doctors are not permitted to name the specific products. However, Dr Lindsay has extensive experience with all major brands and will discuss the options with you during your consultation. Different brands have slightly different onset times and durations, and some patients develop a preference for one brand over another — all preferences are accommodated.

How Long Do Results Last?

For most patients, anti-wrinkle injections last 3–4 months. With regular treatment over time, many patients find the duration extends and the dose required decreases — a genuine benefit of consistent, long-term treatment.
