PDO mono thread treatment

Cosmetic Treatment

Collagen Stimulating Mono Threads

Harness your skin's own collagen response to smooth fine lines and tighten skin — with minimal downtime.

Overview

Collagen Stimulating Mono Threads

PDO (polydioxanone) mono threads and screw threads are fine, soluble threads inserted under the skin to stimulate the body's natural collagen production. Unlike barbed lifting threads, mono threads work primarily by triggering a controlled healing response — as the threads dissolve over several months, they leave behind a scaffold of new collagen that tightens and smooths the skin.

Mono threads are commonly used to improve the appearance of fine lines, surface wrinkles, and subtle skin laxity, providing a gradual skin tightening effect. They can be used almost anywhere on the body where skin tightening is desired.

Screw threads have a coil shape and are used in areas requiring more substantial tightening or volume, such as the cheeks and nasolabials.

What to Expect

Results from PDO mono threads develop gradually over 6–8 weeks as collagen production is stimulated. The threads themselves dissolve within 4–6 months, leaving new collagen in their place. Results can last 12–18 months. The procedure involves some mild swelling and bruising for a few days, and the treated areas may feel tender for a week or so.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between mono threads and lifting threads?

Mono threads are smooth threads without barbs — they work primarily by stimulating collagen production rather than physically lifting tissue. Lifting (barbed) threads can provide a more dramatic lifting effect. A combination of both types is often used.

How many threads are needed?

The number of threads varies significantly depending on the area being treated and the degree of correction desired. Dr Moran will advise on the expected number during your consultation.

How long do results last?

Results typically last 12–18 months, as the collagen scaffold produced by the threads gradually remodels over time.

Is the procedure painful?

Local anaesthesia is used to numb the treatment area. Most patients report mild discomfort during the procedure and some tenderness for a few days afterwards.
